How is your data collection going?

We've been surveying residents since October 1 to hear their perspectives on this project. Read on to learn about who has completed the surveys so far.

2. Have we gotten input from under-heard voices or those who experienced past harms?

At the beginning of this project, we examined past survey data and identified three populations who have been historically left out of past planning processes:

  • Black residents in Glen Park
  • Latina mothers with young children
  • People who are mobility-impaired or primarily use wheelchairs

Working with our credible messengers, we developed targeted outreach plans to hear directly from these residents. Here’s how we’re doing at collecting their input:

It’s important to ensure we are getting input from residents all across the city, rather than in one specific neighborhood. Here’s where our surveys are coming from:

We’ve distributed the survey through a variety of channels: we have partnered with over a dozen community members to share the survey, the city has mentioned it twice in their newsletter, and we attended three community-wide events.

How to get a more representative survey sample

Are you finding that certain populations are missing from your surveys? Here are some ideas for reaching those communities:

  1. Explore the community asset map to identify neighborhoods where under-sampled populations live — and if you know of other places we should add to the map, let us know!
  2. Identify locations such as community centers, health clinics, libraries, schools, businesses, or parks where you might conduct more survey outreach.
  3. Reach out to community members and credible messengers in those neighborhoods to learn about good times to survey community members, ask where else you should go to reach people, and find out who else might be helpful.
